Spirit Visions is the fourth full length album from Madison Wisconsin's Vanishing Kids. As on previous VK releases, it draws on a bizarre and eerie balance of sounds, attempting to stretch from the shimmery gloom of The Cure to the prog-metal bluster of Hawkwind. Hartman’s guitar kicks the album off on a classically chorus-heavy post-punk note with “Fire Dances,” but his solo on “Heathen Heart” evokes Slayer’s chromatic, slippery approach to lead guitar. Drohomyreky’s vocals give the album a constant air of high drama, bellowing and jumping octaves in a way that recalls Celebration’s Katrina Ford. Like the previous album, the music's atmosphere is thick, hanging in the air like oppressive humidity, electric guitars busily buzzing away, led by tasteful yet pounding drumwork. And, just like the last album, despite having music that could easily be droning nonsense, the band decided to be a cut above almost every other band by actually having beautiful, captivating melodies from end to end. Almost every song is a winner. If you like Air, you'll like this one. Highly recommended. Selrisitai

What a beautiful, haunting experience all around, always melts me from start to finish. Incredible and deep sound, amazing atmosphere and cohesion, unexpected jazz elements unlike anything I've heard, and don't get me started on the vocals. Really hard to choose a favorite track. dan-rod
