I met Lauren Katherine Newman in Portland, OR in late '02 when she responded to our ad for a drummer needed. Nik and I had seen her band "Stella Marie" play at the Blackbird a few months ahead of this and were blown away by her guitar playing and performance. However we had no idea what was in store for us with her drumming. I couldn't really tell by first impression if she was going to fit in our band especially playing drums.. this had to be her hobby instrument since she was so skilled at guitar. It only took about 1 second after she started playing that we were once again awe struck by her skills, style and passion! She was immediately a part of the band but we had to wait for her to go to FL for an operation she was having due to her Crohn's disease. We waited it out and did 2 recordings with her as well as a handful of shows over the course of about a year. "Invisible Home" is a very inspired recording capturing a time when almost the whole band lived together (except bassist Eric Hold). Nikki, Lauren and I plus Sarah Hinote (Stella Marie) all rented a house in Portland, OR in 2003. There was a good sized basement for practicing where we lined the walls with dirty hotel mattresses for soundproofing! During this time VK finished up the first full length album "Rest The Glove That Wears You Down". LKN played on 3 tracks of that album and then moved on to record the "Invisible Home EP". I also played drums in an early incarnation of LKN called Stella Marie with Lauren and Sarah Hinote. The creative atmosphere was brimming and many basement recordings from the groups were compiled. This album was recorded by Marshall Serna and David Fredrickson (The Prids). It originally came out on a limited tour cd in '04 and then a split LP with the Madison band "Three Bags Full" in '04. Those pressings are long out of print. In late 2019 Lauren Katherine Newman (LKN) transcended the earth. In her honor I wanted to re release this on cassette as well as a basement recording of Stella Marie (LKN) that Lauren recorded of us back then. Stay tuned for that one..

I love the light and shade between Bryan's dirty and Emma's forlorn vocals. There are so many layers to this recording that are driven home through contrast. Plus the riffs are brilliant and get me moving. I can't stop listening to Thou and Emma in general lately. spaceman2250
